The house has recently been completely and lovingly renovated and restored, preserving many charming and fascinating original features, including four original fireplaces (not currently functioning), mantels and an unusual brick 'beehive' kitchen bread oven (see History for photos). The decorative colour scheme is coordinated to reflect a range of heritage tones in olives, golds and creams for walls and floors. Original woodwork has been preserved and re-used wherever possible. There are five ground floor rooms, including: an entrance hall (mud-room) & half bathroom; a large, modern country kitchen with island and stove top; laundry room/ pantry; dining room with south facing French doors opening onto the patio deck; den/ office or guest bedroom; large living room and formal foyer entrance. Upstairs is a full three piece bathroom with open old wooden beams, sloping ceiling & south facing dormer; a cathedral ceilinged, spacious master bedroom with twin beds lit by a skylight, a generous second bedroom with a double bed, and a smaller third bedroom which might be used as a nursery or walk-in closet entered from both other rooms; and another small room off the master bedroom for closet or storage. There are two fold-down cots that can be used in these rooms. Above is a well-lit half floor attic which could be used for older children's sleeping loft or games area. It is lit by two skylights and accessible by an apple ladder! The entire house has recently been newly and completely renovated inside and out. The house is provided with a new flat screen TV and is wired for cable and high speed internet access if needed which may be provided at cost. The house is mainly furnished with antiques appropriate to the style of the house. The beds, however, are new. There are two sets of place settings for 6 (formal and informal), glasses, silverware, placemats, etc., and a well-supplied kitchen. There are books and games for your entertainment. Outside there are deck chairs and a small barbecue with outdoor tableware available. A kitchen garden is located close by the house and guests may harvest fresh flowers, vegetables and herbs for their own use in season. There is also an extensive network of trails on the property and a lane across a brook to the marshland. We ask that there be no smoking in the house. There is a gravel pad for 3 cars. |
