Lowden House is a delightfully located, historic - 200 years old - "Country Georgian" home bordering on the Habitant River estuary on the edge of the historic Acadian hamlet of Habitant, near the old village of Canning. Beautifully situated on the quiet and pretty road to Kingsport, near the Blomidon Estate Winery, the house is surrounded by open farm fields and natural woodland through which flows a year-round brook emptying into the Habitant estuary and its enveloping saltmarsh. Wildlife and migratory birds abound. Wolfville & Kentville with all services, Acadia University & Colleges lie within an easy 15 minute (12 km) drive; downtown Metro Halifax and the International Airport is an hour and a quarter (120 km or 70 mile) trip. Just down the road, Kingsport Beach is a wonderful place to experience the world's highest tides. At high tide on warm afternoons, the swimming is lovely. At low tide, one can walk for miles on the bottom of the sea along the cliffs. Children will have lasting memories of experiencing the tide creep in over the sand. The location is an ideal base for cycling, walking, kayaking and canoeing. There are fabulous hiking trails 15 minutes away at Blomidon Provincial Park and Cape Split. Nearby Wolfville has theatres, restaurants, galleries, and shops, Acadia University, and a botanical garden. Even closer is Canning with basic services and some interesting shops.
